The PLHIV Post (Jan-Mar, 2024)


The National HIV and AIDS Federation of Nepal has initiated the publication of a quarterly e-newsletter titled “The PLHIV Post,” commencing from 2024. This newsletter aims to disseminate information about the federation’s activities, national and international HIV programs, and efforts towards reducing stigma and discrimination. We express heartfelt gratitude to all contributors who facilitated the launch of this initiative. We eagerly anticipate your ongoing advice, suggestions, and support as we continue this endeavor.

Memorandum

NAP+N has issued a Memorandum on the occasion Candle Light Day, a day before the 36th World AIDS Day. The Candle Light Day is the memorial day for those people who has lost their life within that year. Every year NAP+N is organizing the Candle Light Day through out the country.

Community Makes The Differences….

Nepal is completely lockdown due to the Pandemic situation of COVID 19. In this situation, People Living with HIV in Nepal are distributing the ART medicines at the doorstep of their clients from different parts of the country. That makes them completely adhere to the ART.(Series I)

The 5th National Congress of NAP+N cease with new executive committee

The 5th National Congress of NAP+N cease with new executive committee. The 5th National congress was held on 31st January 2019 to 1st February 2019 at Global Hotel Pvt.Ltd, Bharatpur Chitwan. Mr. Rajesh Didiya has been elected as president and Ms. Sabitra Gyawali as vice president, Indra Pariyar as general secretary, Shibharam Giri as secretary, Khagendra Khadka as a treasurer and Ranjana Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar Khadka, Manita Tamang, Sushil Khatri, Chandra Bahadur Gurung, Manoj Gurung, Prabha Devi Dhanuk and Bharat bahadur Air as a members.

Training of health workers on human rights and medical ethics related to HIV

NAP+N had conducted Training to health workers which is based on Human Rights and Medical Ethics related to HIV in different districts of Nepal supported by National Center for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC). All the participants were from medical fields.
The intent of this training was to remove barriers on human rights and medical ethics related to HIV/AIDS.
Specific objectives:
-To familiarize with the current scenario of HIV in Nepal
-To describe about the human right related barrier and medical ethics in HIV services
-To enable health workers to recognize HIV related stigma and discrimination in health care settings
-To increase knowledge about and confidence in dealing HIV/AIDS and reduce fear and misconceptions

Media Message Development Workshop

Two days ‘Training/Orientation Package/ Media Message Development Workshop’ was conducted in Kathmandu on 18th and 19th April 2018. This workshop was organized by National Association of PLHA in Nepal (NAP+N) with the support of NCASC under the Targeted Intervention Programme.
The intent of this workshop was to develop media message i.e. PSA: Public Service Announcement, content for orientation package to local elected bodies and training package on human right and medical ethics related to HIV/AIDS for health workers.
The main objective of the workshop was to develop PSA, orientation package to to local bodies and training guideline to health workers related to HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Basu Dev Pandey, Director of NCASC and guest Mr. Bishowram Shrestha, Health Coordinator of Kathmandu Metropolitan city were the chief guest of the workshop.It was the goal of Targeted Intervention Programme that the useful, effective, best and fruitful PSA: public service announcement, content of orientation package and training be developed by enrolling the ideas of experts from different field. The participants were from different cohort: government offices, I/NGOS, Media Group, Bar Association etc.The news was covered by Sagarmatha Television and broadcasted on the program “Hamro Aviyan Episode 41”. International AIDS Candle Light Memorial Day 2018

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third
Sunday of May around the world. Similarly, NAP+N had also organized 35 th
international AIDS candle light memorial day on 20 th may, 2018 on the ground
of central office of NAP+N (National Association of PLHA in Nepal) at
Samakhusi, Kathmandu.

The event started with lighting candles by all the members of NAP+N in the
memory of all PLHIV s and those who expired by AIDS. The president of
NAP+N Mr. Achyut Situala spoke a few words of condolence on the memory of
the sad demise of people expired by AIDS. The members of NAP+N expressed
grief by staying mourn (speechless) by closing their eyes for 1 minute in their
memory. Few members spoke on the sad demise of their friends and family
(PLHA) whereas others were looking highly spirited.

The ground of NAP+N was beautifully decorated with red ribbon. Thered
ribbon, as an awarenessribbon, is used as the symbol for the solidarity of
people living with HIV/AIDS.It is generally used to show support for the fight
against HIV/AIDS. It is also a symbol for stroke, heart disease, substance abuse
and complex regional pain syndrome, serves as an important intervention for
global solidarity, breaking down barriers of stigma and discrimination, and
giving hope to new generations.

Program Review Meeting

National Association of PLWHA in Nepal (NAP+N) has conducted 2 days Program Review Meeting under ‘The Global Fund HIV Program’ held on on 12-13 February 2018 at Rive Park International Resort Sauhara Chitwan. 58 participants from PLHIV led organizations, are implementing HIV related treatment, care and support program was participated. The meeting was discussed on the achievements, challages, way forward and leasson learned during the program implementations at local level.
